Science Fair Projects have never been my forte, so it was only natural that we didn't do much about it until the night before it was due. We did choose Sydney's topic for research and she did all of her testing in a good timely manner, but when it came down to writing the report and putting all of our information on the board....there's just NO time like the "last minute"!! I was up all night basically doing it all for her, cutting, pasting, typing, assembling...BUT, I'm very happy to say WE got an excellent grade~~106%!! She scored 48/50 on her oral presentation, not bad for someone that didn't even type up her own report, not to mention having no time to practice it!! She is a "Smartie"...I take full responsibilty for the procrastination.
Her topic was on the Stroop Effect, which is a way of testing automatized behaviors. The brain has a natural ability to just do things automatically, without even thinking about it...reading for example. Try it for yourself~read the color words in the list below, pay no attention to the font color, just read the printed words.

Alot harder than you would think, isn't it?!?! She did an awesome job. We're very proud of all her accomplishments in school~~Just a little sidenote, Sydney also received (for the second time) a Certificate for Outstanding Performance on the Iowa Tests. She scored in the top ten percent 'Nationally' in Reading, Science and Total Composite. Way to go, Syd!!!
